Playing Hooky from 5th Grade

Because it was Connor's final year of elementary school in 5th grade, I had talked to him for a while about doing something fun together in honor of his elementary graduation. We are sticklers about school attendance in our house, but I've always wanted to pull the kids out of school for a special occasion, and this seemed to be just the right time. I asked Connor to decide what he might like to do if we played hooky from school, and he knew just the thing.

First up, Katy Mills Mall for Connor's very favorite store: It'Sugar! Yes, anything and everything CANDY!

For our next stop, we drove downtown to the Downtown Aquarium to check out the rides and sights. Connor had never been and thought it would be a cool adventure together, and he was right! We had to fight the crowds of the visiting school groups in the morning, but we really enjoyed the aquarium creatures as well as the outdoor amusement rides. Our favorite was the train through the shark tank, so cool!

We went upstairs to enjoy some lunch before it was time to go home. The dining area was really neat, wrapped around a huge aquarium with all kinds of interesting fish. We had the best time together, mother and son, and I sure enjoyed seeing Connor's smiles throughout the day. He felt on top of the world being able to skip school and enjoy our 1-on-1 time together.
