Our morning was hectic to say the least. We had an early start and I was feeling confident about getting to school on time. An hour before we had to leave, I asked Connor to get his backpack ready. "Mom," he asks, "Where is my lunch kit?" LUNCH! I had completely forgotten that I needed to pack him a lunch! And I had no bread for a sandwich and no bananas in the house (his 2 favorite lunch staples).
So, I loaded up both kids in the car and we were off to Kroger. We picked up some bread and bananas and headed back home so I could quickly make his sandwich and pack his lunch. As I'm making his sandwich, Kaitlynn starts playing around in the pantry and found a cereal box. Next thing I know...well, let's just say..."Um, honey my bunches of oats are ALL over the floor!" Ha!
As I contemplated whether to finish Connor's lunch or clean up the mess, I quickly realized I should just finish the lunch because Kaitlynn was happily (and quietly, I might add) entertained as she bellied up to the cereal bar.
After I packed Connor's lunch, I swept up a whole bunch of bunches of oats. And of course, Kaitlynn proceeded to have a meltdown because her unlimited buffet had been shut down. But, it was time to go so we were off to school. On the way into the school building Kaitlynn decided she wanted to walk in like the big kids so Connor helped her out a bit.
It was a madhouse in the hallway! Tons of parents saying their goodbyes and even more kiddos either excitedly running around or clinging for dear life to their Mommies and Daddies. Connor was very happy and ready to get inside his classroom.
He has several friends in his class from last year, so he felt right at home. Having Ms. Mory there was a big bonus as well.
On our way out, Kaitlynn refused to be held and wanted to walk herself. She noticed several of the Mothers Day Out rooms of kids that were her age, and she tried like crazy to get in. I kept steering her away and she'd go right back to the door. When I finally picked her up to tell her she couldn't go in, she was so mad that she started screaming and crying to get back in. Funny thing was, all the kids on the inside of the Mothers Day Out rooms were screaming and crying to get OUT. Ha! (We are now on the waiting list for Kaitlynn to attend Mothers Day Out. Here's hoping a spot opens up soon!)
When I picked Connor up from school, he had a huge smile on his face as he told me all about his day. It was a great first day of school, even if it was a little hectic. :-)
I'm so glad Connor liked his first day. Jackson goes to meet his teacher in an hour! I'm so excited for him to see the room. Laine and I got to see it last night and he's going to love it!
ReplyDeleteOh I hope Kaitlynn can get in soon. She's so social and active that she'll probably eat it up! And you can have some free time. Whatever will you do with yourself???? :-)
This post made me laugh out loud! You are a hilarious story teller! The cereal bar was my favorite!
ReplyDeleteCan I just say that making sure that the pantry/refrigerator are fully stocked for kid's meals is the one thing that stresses me out? I always try to be one step ahead before we run out of food, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. And the grocery store has become the chore I hate most. All that to say that I totally understand the panic of realizing (in the heat of the moment) that you have to pack a lunch and are missing your staples! Sounds like you were able to whip it together in no time flat, though. And, hey, a little cereal mishap could have been the biggest blessing of the morning. Kept baby girl entertained long enough to pull everything together!
Sounds like a very successful first day of school! I'm glad that Connor is excited about going to school.....bet he will be excited when Kaitlynn gets to go with him, too! Love, MeMe
ReplyDeleteOh Lauri that is too funny. Several things- you go girl with your last minute Kroger run. Impressive that you were able to pull it all together in no time at all. Can I say that packing the lunch is my least favorite thing to do. Don't know why- just is!! Such a pain!
ReplyDeleteAnd the cereal bar is hiilarous. What a mess, right. But a blessing that it kept K entertained. And I'm impressed that you still had the time to clean it all up. I might have left that for when we got back. ha!
And I do hope K gets in to a class soon. She would love it and so would you!! Keep us posted! Glad you have that first morning behind you! :)
LOL! A hectic but very successful first day of school!! LOL! The cereal buffet cracked me up! And, I LOVE the picture of Conner walking holding Kaitlyn's hand! Priceless! Glad the first day worked out so well!
