KYF Junior Varsity Texans - A Family Affair

After a fun start to the new season, our KYF Texans were on their way to another fun year. Connor worked hard to increase his play time this season and began playing mostly on the offensive line with some occasional defensive time. And with Jeff serving as a coach and Kaitlynn cheering the team on, every Saturday with our KYF Texans was a full family affair.

Coach Jeff really enjoyed his role as coach this season. Also known to the team as our "Safety Mom" haha!

Kevin joined us for a game during the season.

My parents were able to join us for a game to see both kids in action.

While every year has its ups and downs, this season with the Texans proved to be tough. Towards the end of the season, our team battled through some coach and player issues that really brought down the morale of the team. I know this kind of thing is common in kids' sports, or sports in general, but Jeff and I really struggled with the way it all turned out because we just wanted our team and the families to stick together.

The 2015 junior varsity Texans. What an awesome team!

It's so disappointing to me when the egos and opinions of the parents negatively impact the kids. After all, the motto of our KYF league is "Doin' it for the kids!" I can guarantee you that none of those players wanted it this way, to see their fellow teammates go their separate ways.

In the end, however, our beloved Texans team appears to be splitting up for good. Jeff, Connor, and I really felt caught in the middle of the team conflict. We made a decision as a family to go to the newly formed team, but we honestly don't know if it was the right decision.

We will cherish these last 3 years of being a KYF Texan along with the sense of community and camaraderie that we were lucky to be a part of. Our best memories in Katy, Texas so far have been because of this awesome team and all of the wonderful families and kids!
