Tornado Adventure

While Connor and Kaitlynn were staying in East Texas with MeMe and Grand Daddy, a string of bad storms was moving through the area. On two different occasions, the tornado sirens began blaring. During one of those times Grand Daddy checked the radar and determined that everyone needed to hunker down and wait for the tornado to pass. He sent MeMe, Connor, and Kaitlynn into the bathroom in the center of the house. In order to keep the kids occupied, they loaded up a Wiggles movie on the portable DVD player. As you can imagine, Connor and Kaitlynn thought this was quite an adventure.

As the radar showed the tornado approaching, Grand Daddy began to load the bathroom with supplies to prepare for the worst. He brought flashlights, hard hats, and finally...the mattress. Connor was busy watching the movie, but he looked at MeMe and said, "Why is Grand Daddy bringing all this weird stuff in here?"

Fortunately, the tornado passed through the area without any damage. The following night when the kids were gearing up to watch a movie before bedtime, Connor asked, "MeMe, can we have movie night in the bathroom?" :-)

  1. That's awesome!!! What a great idea to use hard hats! I'm pretty sure if a tornado rips through here we are toast! We are SO not prepared. I bet the kids had such a great time with your parents. I love the idea of the adventures. Your kids will always remember these times with your parents. Laine still talks about a special trip he took with his grandparents. Much more meaningful than toys they don't need!

  2. First of all, your dad is cracking me up! Could he be any more prepared? That is awesome! Also, Connor is going to take that memory with him for the rest of his life, and he will cherish it! I remember preparing for tornados when I was a kid, and while we weren't near as organized, I always thought it was such a fun adventure, and I remember it vividly. Kudos to your parents for taking such good care of your babies during a stressful time - AND - capturing the moment in pictures during the process! I love it!

  3. I remember being scared when we were taking cover for tornadoes. But C and K just seem to be eating it up. I bet it helps to have the portable DVD player on hand to distract. I just made a mental note!

  4. You know you did a tornado shelter up right when the kids want to go back to it! Your parents are too cute! And your Dad well prepared! Glad they were able to turn what could have been a scary situation into something fun for the kids!
