Connor's 14th Birthday

It was a bit of a letdown that Connor's greatly anticipated birthday happened during our months-long quarantine, but you wouldn't have known it by his excitement when May 3 arrived. This kid, like most I suppose, just LOVES his birthday and all of the perks that come with it. For his special day, I surprised him with his favorite breakfast - awesome rolls. And the best part was that I made an entire 13x9 pan for him, no one else!

After breakfast, he received a birthday call from MeMe and Grandaddy and was able to open their gift to him while they were on FaceTime. He was pleasantly surprised to receive his own Amazon Firestick!

For Connor's special birthday meal, he requested a steak dinner at his favorite spot, Texas Roadhouse. Unfortunately, they weren't yet open for dining in, so he took second best (according to him) which is a medium rare ribeye from his Dad. When Jeff asked him what he wanted to go with his steak, Connor responded jokingly, "Ruffles." Well, that was exactly what he had for his birthday lunch - steak and Ruffles!

And of course, the favorite and long-awaited part of his birthday meal was a homemade chocolate cake. This is a recent new birthday tradition using an incredibly decadent chocolate cake and frosting recipe from my friend Cyndi in Dubai. It is truly the best cake I've ever had and Connor agrees. Thank goodness my baking skills had improved from the cake disaster on Jeff's birthday the prior month, because this time it turned out great. He was SO excited to have this for his birthday, and it didn't disappoint!

After we all enjoyed Connor's birthday meal, it was time to roll into the living room (haha) to watch Connor unwrap some gifts. He received a few requested things for his video games like a controller and headset. He also received the most giant bag of his favorite candy, Mike and Ikes, and it was truly a jaw-dropper for him. Loved his reaction!

Despite the less-than-ideal circumstances of Covid-19 and quarantine, Connor's birthday was a fun family day at home. As per tradition, I made him pose for a few photos to commemorate his official 14th birthday, quarantine hair and all!
