Mid-Season Update

As I type this update, we are over halfway through our season of Katy Youth Football and Cheer. Now that we have both kids participating in the games, it is a little more hectic but so much more fun to watch them do their thing every Saturday!

Our favorite cheerleader and football player!

The entire Texan team and cheer squad.

Jeff and Connor before one of his games.

Connor's team is having another great season, fighting for the 2nd or 3rd spot in their Rookie division. Connor is usually playing outside linebacker or tight end, and he is also on the Kickoff teams. He continues to learn a lot and loves every second of his time on the team, even the tough practices 3 times a week. We've experienced all ranges of weather in our football games so far, from the impossibly muggy and hot, to the rainy and muddy mess, as well as the very cold but sunny days. Rain or shine, we can usually be found at the football field!

All muddied up after practice.

Rainy day game.

Connor (on the far left) lined up as an outside linebacker.

Connor (far left) makes a dive to try to stop the runner.

The Texans get their play call from the quarterback, with our #90 on the outside of the huddle.

Connor avoids the tackle.

One weekend, our area had a ton of rain and flooding so Connor's game had to be moved to one of the local high school football stadiums. The boys got to play on actual turf with stadium lights/seating and a 100-yard field. Not sure who was more excited about that, the coaches or the players, ha!

Wide angle of the big field with our little Texans on the left. Such a cool experience for our team!

Of course, we have to split our time between watching the football players and watching the cheerleaders now that Kaitlynn is on the cheer squad. It has been an interesting season for her (and us) to say the least!

The boys played on the big field while the girls cheered on the track.

I can't say enough about how much Kaitlynn continues to grow this year, and cheerleading has become a big part of that. We really weren't sure how she would do on the squad -- she's not a natural dancer, how would she learn the dances/cheers, and whether she'd tolerate the demands required on the sidelines and during the halftime performances.

Jeff holds the banner and Kaitlynn cheers as the boys are about to break through.

Let's be honest, Kaitlynn doesn't have the best tolerance for even slightly difficult conditions. Weather has proved to be the biggest challenge of her rookie cheer experience. Too hot, too cold, rainy, muggy...maybe we should call her Goldilocks because she definitely prefers when the weather is JUST RIGHT! Lol!

A typical expression from our favorite Texans cheerleader!

But weather aside, Kaitlynn has really impressed us and her cheer coaches this season. She is one of the youngest girls on the squad but she often knows the cheers and dances better than her older squad members. Of course, her life's motto is always in full effect -- If it's not her idea, she ain't doing it! -- but she has come such a long way and we continue to feel so proud of her.

Lined up for their halftime performance.

The squad on the sidelines during one of our games.

Love that smile!
Kaitlynn with her cheer coaches, Janna and Amy.

Getting some encouragement from Sweet Daddy on the sidelines.

Of course, my favorite part of Kaitlynn's cheer experience is watching her perform her cheers and dances at halftime. Here are two videos from her performances. The first one is their halftime dance to Taylor Swift's Shake It Off (Kaitlynn is on the far right) and the second one shows two of their cheers at halftime (Kaitlynn is on the far left).

Stay tuned for the outcome of our Rookie Texans' season!
