Homecoming Prep

Not long after Connor made his successful Homecoming date proposal to Marie, we had to carve out some mother/son shopping time together to buy this boy a proper outfit for his Homecoming dance. (Jeff is out there somewhere reading this thinking, "boys don't wear outfits!" Ha!) This 15 year old kid of ours keeping growing taller and we can't seem to keep him in clothes that fit his long and narrow frame. I was worried about finding him something suitable to wear that would look nice and dressy enough to match his date's beautiful dress. Amidst an incredibly hectic fall schedule, we found a free afternoon and did something I hadn't done in months (years?)... head to the local mall for some clothes shopping!

To my surprise and delight, we were able to find a great option for Connor at the first store and on the first try. He looked great and we were both happy with his outfit. We ended up spending a couple more hours searching for the right color of tie, but in the end, we knew we had a good selection and set off for the last stop of the day to find shoes for his size 13 feet. Of course, we had to fuel up with snacks along the way.

We ended up hitting the jackpot at the shoe store, finding the only suitable black dress shoes that just so happened to also be available in a size 13. Phew! We thankfully headed back home and I asked Connor to try it all on together to make sure it would work. Perfection!

To top off his Homecoming attire, Connor expressed a desire to jazz it up with some cool dress socks. I just so happened to have a pair of socks that I had purchased for a Christmas gift, and I decided to pull them out as a surprise. You would've thought he'd won the lottery; his eyes lit up and he was suddenly super pumped and ready for his big night.

There was only one more thing he needed before the day of Homecoming arrived - the custom made Homecoming mum for his date, Marie. The mum is a long-standing Texas tradition that most Americans wouldn't understand or have even heard of. But it's a big deal to order the perfect mum with the right colors, custom trinkets and names, and all the extra flourish to make it special for your date. Once the mum was successfully picked up, Connor was all ready for the big event!
