The 2012 Olympics in London aren't the only Games happening this summer. Jeff and his childhood buddy, Bob, just completed their 8th Winkright Olympic match right here in Houston. Their Olympic competition this summer consisted of biking, frisbee golf, basketball, physical training, bowling, and darts. But these are no ordinary Games. Anyone who knows Jeff and Bob also knows how intense they are with their activities. So imagine both of them competing in these events with the most intricate scoring system ever devised. It was a long, tough weekend of competition followed by multiple rounds of point recalculations. And there can only be 1 winner. This year the Games were decided by a single point. Jeff was not happy.

It is tradition for the "host" of the Games to have t-shirts made for the Winner and the Loser. Over the years, Jeff has collected 6 Winner shirts and Bob now has 2. This year's competition had a little more at stake since the Olympians both turn 50 next spring.

This year's bike race featured both Olympians being thrown head first over their handlebars. |
While the Winklers were in town, we had a great visit. We even managed to make a quick trip to the Galveston beach during Memorial Day weekend. It was so nice visiting with such great friends, and they returned home with even bigger smiles thanks to the hard earned Winner t-shirt.

Looks like lots of fun! So neat that they keep doing it every year. Helps keep them young!
ReplyDeleteI get such a kick out of their competition. =) I've grown to look forward to this post each year. =) Sorry that Jeff didn't bring home the hardware - maybe victory will be his next year as he celebrates the big 5-0!
