Cheer Power

Fresh off their big win at Jamfest in Indianapolis, it was time for our Nighthawks to compete again. This time we drove over to San Antonio for the Cheer Power National Championship, which was surprisingly the first time we had competed in the city. We were very close to the Riverwalk area and it had been YEARS since I had visited, but our hotel had a nice balcony overlooking the beautiful Riverwalk scenery and we really enjoyed our stay there.

Kaitlynn was excited to see her teammates and friends for the Nighthawks' Day 1 performance, and we ended up on a Lyft ride from hell where we worried we'd make it to the arena at all, ha! The Woodlands Elite teams all performed great on Day 1, and we were thankful to learn we could take an easy walk back to our hotel to avoid anymore Lyft drama. That night, we hung out with some friends and had a great time at dinner overlooking another section of the Riverwalk. It was a refreshing surprise to enjoy San Antonio's beautiful downtown area again after years of thinking it had been going downhill.

On Day 2, the Nighthawks had a great performance despite a terrible glitch in their music while they were on stage competing. The entire arena began counting for the athletes - "1, 3, 5, 7!" - to help them stay on count and finish their routine, but the rhythm of the crowd's counting was off and their performance wasn't as great as they'd hoped. Since they didn't have any official competitors in their division, they didn't get a performance redo. They were all super happy to take home yet another National Champion jacket to add to their full collection for the season. Smiles all around for another fun cheer competition weekend!
