Kaitlynn's Last Week at The Foundry Preschool

Yet another chapter in our lives concluded this month when Kaitlynn completed her last week of preschool for this year. Since we now live too far away from her school, we were forced to say goodbye to our beloved Foundry Faith Academy where both of our kids have been for years and where we made so many incredible friends and lasting memories. To say I've been emotional about leaving would be quite the understatement.

(I've hardly recognized myself from all this emotion. Who is this basketcase and what has she done with the real me?? Or, is this just part of the process of being a Mom? You turn into a sappy, sentimental wreck over every milestone your kids reach while you cling like mad to the days when your babies were still, well, babies? *Sigh*)

But, I digress.

Kaitlynn actually had a wonderful last week of preschool at The Foundry. Her teacher, Ms. Susan, recommended that we have a little classroom celebration in honor of Kaitlynn's birthday since it falls in the summertime and all of the other kids had already celebrated their birthdays. I would've never thought of that, so I appreciated her thoughtfulness so much! We ordered some special princess cookies and Kailtynn had the BEST day celebrating with her classmates.

Kaitlynn's birthday celebration was quite the success! She felt so special to be honored by her teachers and classmates, and I was so thankful that her big day was celebrated in advance.

Finally, her last day of school arrived. Oh, what a year it has been!

As an end-of-year treat, the parents were able to enjoy a performance by the preschoolers as they sang some songs at the graduation ceremony for the older kids. Jeff and I were so delighted by these sweet kids, and Kaitlynn cracked us up with her expressive performance.

Here's a quick video of the kids singing Footprints on the Water. They were SO excited!!

At the end of the school day, it was time to say goodbye to our friends and beloved teachers. Boy, oh boy, did I have to work hard to hold my emotions together.

Kaitlynn has been so blessed by her teachers this year, Ms. Susan and Ms. Amy. We have had the best classroom, best kids, best parents, and BEST preschool experience this entire year. Kaitlynn has learned and grown so much and made such wonderful friends.

We first met Ms. Susan 3 years ago when Kaitlynn first started Mother's Day Out. Kaitlynn was 15 months old, and she stormed into that classroom full of spunk, quickly trying to take control of the class and become the teacher herself. (Ha!) As Ms. Susan wrote of Kaitlynn, "You came to me in Todder 2's as my youngest student -- it did not take long for you to show your confidence and soon you were running the class for me!"

Fast forward 3 years to today, and Kaitlynn has blossomed so much under the guidance and instruction of Ms. Susan. But Kaitlynn wasn't the only one who benefitted from Ms. Susan's teachings. As it turns out, one of her greatest lessons was in fact for us, the parents, as Susan gracefully taught Jeff and I how to step back and allow Kaitlynn to take responsibility for herself and her actions. We will be forever grateful for everything Susan taught all of us, and we already miss her like crazy!

And just when I thought I had passed the worst of the emotions, Kaitlynn's best friend Anais presented her with a very special gift: a "best friend" necklace with their initials engraved, one for each of them to wear when they are missing each other now that they'll be attending different schools.

Cue the waterworks!

These sweet girls have had a bond from the moment they met on the playground at 18 months old. They anxiously await each time they will see each other, and they giggle and squeal with delight the entire time when they're together. It breaks my heart that they won't be at the same school next year, but we are planning lots of playdates to make sure their bond stays strong.

Along with the necklace, Anais presented Kaitlynn with this special custom card showing their friendship throughout the years. Such a treasure!

Such special memories of teachers and friends alike. I can't say enough good things about Foundry Faith Academy and how much we will miss it. It has been so hard to say goodbye!
