Summer Basketball League

Connor wasn't the only Courtright playing summer basketball this year. Kaitlynn also joined a summer league through our school district and was so excited to get back on the court for the first time in over a year or so. She wasn't sure what to expect with this new league, but she showed up ready to play and figure it all out!

The players arrived and were assigned their color-coordinated team shirt based on the junior high they attended. The athletic coordinator then talked with the crowd to explain the process and rules of the league. It was then that we learned there would be NO coaches - the girls would govern themselves as their own team units and the players would rotate in and out evenly. That was surprising, and admittedly it was a bit awkward for the teams at first. But it didn't take long for the girls to get to know each other and really begin bonding with each other.

Our girl Kaitlynn wasted no time getting back into her groove on the court. She was a little rusty, but as the games progressed in the first half of the summer, her confidence and skills continued to grow. It was so much fun watching her play tough and at times, frustrate her opponents on the court.

One of the highlights of the summer basketball league was enjoying the experience with one of her besties, Sophia. These two have been friends since 1st grade and love any opportunity to spend time together.

Another highlight for Kaitlynn was having her cousins attend her games while they were in town for a visit. They were able to witness some of Kaitlynn's tough moves and interactions with her opponents, which really made for some fun conversation on the way home.

Speaking of her on-court antics, Kaitlynn's favorite thing in basketball is truly frustrating her opponents. She is super aggressive on defense and really gets in the face of the players she is guarding. The more they get frustrated, the more Kaitlynn enjoys it. There were even a couple of occasions during their 10 games where Kaitlynn was called a choice name or two from her opponent. She also managed to leave a few games with various injuries like scratches and bruises. She was unfazed and just carried on.

What her opponents should probably understand, and what they likely figured out along the way, is that she is tough and determined on the court and won't let you get in her head. Even when she accidentally scores a basket for the wrong team (whoops! Lol!) she will get right back to work. The summer basketball league was relatively short, but we enjoyed every moment of watching Kaitlynn play!
