Kingdom Rock -- VBS 2013

For the past several summers, one of our first and favorite summer activities has been Vacation Bible School. Since Kaitlynn is still in preschool, I have always volunteered as a VBS worker so that she can participate in the curriculum like Connor. It is always a chaotic and exhausting week but the kids LOVE it. This summer, I contacted a new church in Katy and signed up to volunteer at their VBS even though we had never visited that church and we didn't know a single person there. It was a little more overwhelming but we still had such a great week, and everytime we're in the car we are usually rocking out to the VBS songs! :-)

First day of VBS!

I am always amazed at the decorations each year for VBS. This year the theme was Kingdom Rock, all about castles and kings and queens. Such creative and talented folks volunteered their time to transform the ordinary sanctuary into a glorious castle!

While Kaitlynn was in one of the preschool classes, Connor and I were in the same "crew" in the sanctuary. I was the leader of about 20 2nd graders, and they sure kept me on my toes! Each morning, all the kids would gather in the sanctuary to hear about the day's theme and sing lots of fun songs. My favorite part of each day was when Kaitlynn's class of 3-year-olds would file into the sanctuary and sit on the front row to join the older kids. She was SO proud of herself being with all the big kids; so proud, in fact, that she managed to get herself lost from her group a time or two. Oops!

One of the neat things about the VBS at St. Peters was that all of the kids put on a concert at the end of the week, singing songs and doing the motions for that song. Each grade level was assigned one of the songs. Here are Connor and Kaitlynn in their group songs.
