Courtright Family Trip to Europe, Part 2

The second leg of our Courtright family trip in Europe would be by ship, the Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Seas. My great friend Katherine booked this cruise for us with adjoining cabins, and that turned out to be one of our very favorite things about our entire trip! Even though the cabins were a bit crowded for our bunch, it was so neat to be able to open the adjoining door and go back and forth between cabins, which contributed to the true family feel of our time together. The weather in Rome was absolutely perfect, sunny and cool, truly delightful and couldn't have been more enjoyable. On our first evening, Connor and Kaitlynn participated in a putting competition and walked away with medals. Off to a great start on our cruise!

Our Royal Caribbean cruise set off from Rome with daily stops in the Amalfi Coast, Turkey, and Greece. It was truly the ideal itinerary for our family and the perfect way to visit some incredible locations within a short timeframe. Our first stop was Salerno Italy, where we were able to explore the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii in a private 8-hour tour. Our tour guide drove us through the Amalfi Coast with incredible views as we continued to climb in altitude. We first arrived in Amalfi and walked around the beautiful town, exploring old churches and shops. It was another glorious weather day and we were all smiles at the surrounding beauty.

Our driver then took us to another town on the coast, Ravello, where we climbed up to an overlook and took in the most beautiful coastline scenery. It was absolutely breathtaking! We also enjoyed some snacks and gelato at this stop.

Our next and last stop for the day was Pompeii, which we decided to tour on our own. Connor remembered some of the specific spots from his European History course and we decided to check those out and enjoy the views along the way. It was really interesting to take it all in and realize the devastation from the ancient tragedy. The artwork was probably our favorite surprise; lots of male anatomy back in that day, ha! We had the absolute BEST day full of activities and family fun, and we were beyond exhausted by the time we returned to the ship.
