Summer was well underway with the start of the new AAU basketball season for Connor. This year, he managed to join a team with all his fellow teammates from his high school team. It was so exciting that he'd get to spend so much time with these guys who he truly enjoyed hanging out with, and we were all hopeful that he'd get to focus on improving his basketball skills leading up to the new school year and basketball season in the fall.
The team he joined was called Principles First, and he was playing in the 16U division with practices and tournaments in the Katy/Cypress/Tomball area. His team wasted no time with their hectic practice and tournament schedule, keeping him incredibly busy as the summer was just getting started. We were so happy to be a part of this team of familiar faces and wonderful families, and we couldn't wait to see what the team had in store for their summer ahead.
As a part of Connor's development during the summer, he began working with one of his teammate's dads to get in some extra practice and coaching after hours. They worked HARD, and it was an incredibly generous gift of time from Coach Greg to help Connor work toward his goal of improving on the court. We really noticed the difference, and by the end of the season, others were noticing as well. Multiple parents came up to us during various tournaments and commented on how great he was playing and how much he had improved. So proud of this hard-working kid!
By the end of their season, our Principles First team had earned some hardware but definitely not as much as they'd hoped! But for Connor the season was a success. He had grown tremendously as a player and in his confidence on the court. And above all that, he truly enjoyed his time with this great group of young men with a lot of smiles and fun for all of us along the way.
