Thanksgiving 2021

When Thanksgiving Day finally arrived, we set off on yet another road trip, this time to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for the holiday celebration with the Morgan side of the family, hosted by my Aunt Tina and Uncle Mackey in their new home in suburban Fort Worth. Collin had already left for Houston to share the holiday with his mom's side of the family, so it was just the 4 of us that ventured north on the beautiful day of Thanksgiving.

We had so much to be thankful for this year! With a house packed full of beloved family members, a joyful time to finally visit in person together, a kitchen overflowing with delicious prepared food, and the worst of Covid hopefully behind us, we were so thankful to feel a sense of normalcy and catch up in person. My parents weren't able to join us, but they were recovering well after a bout with Covid, yet another reason of thanksgiving. I'm not sure who needed and enjoyed the family time more - the grownups or the young cousins (and let's be honest, the young cousins look more like grownups these days anyway, ha!) but we all had the best day together spending quality time with yummy food and beautiful weather.

One thing that I think I'll always remember from this year's Thanksgiving is a short but sweet remark from my Uncle Mackey. Driving to his house from Austin, we were surprised at the long drive it took to get there. Just when we thought we were getting close, we would turn on another street and realize we were still many miles away. The destination - somewhere in the outskirts of suburban Fort Worth - seemed like a neighborhood in the middle of nowhere. But when we arrived and took in the beautiful view from Mackey and Tina's backyard, it began to make sense why they had chosen THIS house in THIS particular location. Mackey explained it perfectly: now that they were in retirement, he had been looking for somewhere to "stretch his eyes." That phrase really stuck with me and has since become somewhat of my own goal for the future! :)
