Bama Bound

As Kaitlynn headed up north to Nebraska for Soul Quest camp, Jeff, Connor and I headed east for a completely different type of camp: Connor's college orientation at University of Alabama! It's called Bama Bound, and it's a 2-day experience for incoming students and their families to get acclimated to campus and oriented to all things about their upcoming college life as a new UA student. We arrived in mid-June during an unseasonably cool summer week, and we were immediately impressed with the outstanding organization and facilitation of the orientation event. The kids split up into small groups to learn about dorm life and campus administrative items while the parents attended various presentations and other activities to help us adjust to our new roles as freshman parents. We were able to explore the campus during the beautiful weather and get to know Tuscaloosa a little more while juggling several events designed to help students and parents connect. During one of our sessions in the Engineering College, we ended up having a great conversation with the Dean of Engineering as well as other advisors who were incredibly helpful with Connor's questions and inquiries. Connor stayed in the dorm for the first night, and by Day 2 of orientation he had gotten all of this classes lined up for the fall semester. We were all feeling so excited for his upcoming transition into college life, and UA had done such an impressive job of welcoming and preparing us for the weeks and months ahead. I was still finding it hard to believe that we were about to embark on this next chapter, but ready or not, here it comes! Roll Tide! (Gotta start practicing that now, ha!)
