In early 2024, Nana and Grandpa Dave moved out of their longtime home in Richmond CA into an assisted living facility in Sacramento. They had reached the point of needing a little more support in their care, and their new home was much closer and more convenient to Dave's son Brian. When we found out that Kevin had a couple extra vacation days, we decided it would be a great opportunity to get the family together for a trip to California to visit Nana and Grandpa at their new home. We rented an AirBnb and invited Nicole to join us as well. We didn't make any big plans but were excited to catch up with the Spencer family in Sacramento.
Their facility had a nice meeting room where we decided to hang out and spend time together. Brian, Keri, and Cameron joined us to play some card games and enjoy some pizza for lunch. We had a lovely first day catching up and soaking in the time as a family.
Since we were in the area, we decided to take a day trip to San Francisco and see some of the sights. We took a bus tour of the downtown area and Golden Gate Bridge on a beautiful sunny day. We laughed at Collin the entire 2-hour drive there and back, because he decided to stow away in the back trunk area of our rented SUV. I think he had a nice nap back there, ha!
On our last day in town, we spent time with Nana and Grandpa in their apartment and took turns playing some euchre. All 4 kids have gotten quite good at that game! Their space was small with limited seating but the kids took turns sitting in Nana's wheelchair and walker, ha! It was such a nice couple of days for the family catching up and soaking in these moments with Nana and Grandpa Dave, and we were so thankful to have this time together during our Spring Break.
