When Kaitlynn chose her elective courses for her 8th grade school year, she learned of an opportunity for an elective called Partners in PE. It's a class period for selected 8th grade students to spend time with the special education kids of the school, partnering with them in PE games and activities. Kaitlynn had to apply to join the class with multiple teacher recommendation letters, and she was thrilled to be selected as a "Pal" along with several of her good friends. While she didn't know much about the program in the beginning, it quickly became her absolute favorite class period of the day. Led by amazing Coach Severin, Kaitlynn and the other pals had so much fun getting to know their buddies and participating in such fun activities along the way. Most days, Kaitlynn came home from school with so many cute stories and excitedly telling us all about the relationships she was forming with these sweet kiddos.
One of the first outings that the PPE class was able to attend together outside of school was a junior high football game. The pals and buddies dressed in their Texans jerseys and were introduced during halftime at the game. The kids had so much fun hanging out at the game, and it was our first opportunity to see Kaitlynn's sweet relationship with some of her favorite buddies. It was such a blessing to watch how Kaitlynn was thriving in this program and opening her heart in so many ways, and we loved getting to know her new friends.
