Kaitlynn chose theater as her very first elective for junior high, and she was excited to learn about any opportunities for stage performances. Despite the Covid protocols in place, the theater teachers worked extra hard to give their students a great experience and enable them to participate in a play for their families and friends. After months of practices, a delay by the Texas winter storm, and a last-minute schedule shuffle, the cast and crew of Wingin' It did a fantastic job!
Of course, it's no secret that Kaitlynn was our favorite actress of the night. She auditioned for the role of Melba, a funny and silly part, but she ended up getting a smaller role (but just as funny) as a sick child with a babysitter that makes questionable decisions. Her character (in the green shirt) ends up getting sick and treated by her babysitter with jumper cables, ha! It was one of the funniest scenes of the show. And on top of that, Kaitlynn had done such a great job in rehearsals that her teacher ended up asking her to take on an additional role in the play - a "mean girl" - at the last minute to fill in for an unexpected absence. She performed both roles to perfection, and we enjoyed every minute of the show.
With Covid creating so many challenges for school activities over the past year, we were so happy for the teachers and students to have the opportunity to experience the joy of performing again. Despite the face shields and social-distancing rules, the play went off without a hitch and we hardly noticed the "new normal" on the stage. After the performance, we were able to take some photos of our actress and celebrate her successful stage debut. She's definitely a natural, and we were so proud to see her shine!
